Hello all,
Welcome to Living the Green Life’s blog! There are six members that will provide blog posts about living green here at Elon University. The blog is part of a class my group members and I are taking until the end of the semester (beginning of May). We will each have a blog day on different days of the week (except for Sundays). Our group members will provide a blog post on their day, which covers what we did on a given day that was sustainable to the environment. We hope to provide new and innovative ways to students and others that show how small changes can reduce their carbon footprint. If it does not seem like a big deal, think about this, according to The Story of Stuff, “one-third of our natural resources have already been used”. Most natural resources are non-renewable, which is why we need better and more efficient ways of using the environment to fulfill what one needs on a daily basis, as a opposed to what one wants. We’re only on this planet for a short time, and we’re only human. However, humans, animals, plants, etc. need trees to produce oxygen in order to live. It is a basic concept of life. It does not help to know that “the U.S. has less than four percent of its original forests”(The Story of Stuff). It is amazing considering that the United States only accounts for “five percent of the world’s population, even though we (the United States) use thirty percent of the world’s resources”(The Story of Stuff). Is that not startling? We have a small population yet we just take over the global market and as a result there are negative consequences towards our environment. When I first learned of this I was stunned. The world is something everyone and everything shares. We all need to take care of it and we all need to watch out for what lies ahead in the future. My name is “T” and Thursdays are my blog post days.
We all look forward to blogging,
-The Living the Green Life team.
